Course Description
Course description: This non-credit, self-paced certificate course provides English language instruction for students with a beginning level of English (CEFR A2). This course will take about 20 hours to complete (roughly 2 hours per module). You can repeat any modules as often as desired. Once you have finished the material in this course, you will receive a certificate of completion. You may also request to take an English language assessment at the end of the course.
Learning Objectives
This course will assist beginner English language learners in improving their English. The learning materials in the course are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR) level A2.
- can understand sentences and common expressions about familiar topics, including very basic personal and family information, shopping, places of interest and work
- can communicate in simple, everyday tasks that require only simple and direct exchanges of information on familiar topics
- can describe aspects of their past, environment and matters related to their immediate needs, using simple language.

Pre-Requisite
Students should have completed the English language course for beginners: CEFR level A1 before taking this course or self-assess at A2 Pre-intermediate level.
Materials Needed
Students will need a computer with microphone, speaker, and internet access.
Instructor Bio
Nell Rose Hill, PhD has taught ESL in higher education since 2005. Dr. Hill received a Ph.D. in English, specializing in composition and TESOL, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2019. Her hobbies include reading, cycling, and traveling.
